Program of Studies
At CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering, students engage in a strong academic program enhanced by a unique middle school experience focused on computer science, engineering, innovation, and design thinking.As the only middle school in Connecticut partnered with Amazon Future Engineer, students take Computer Science courses that include Scratch, Python coding, Engineering, Innovation, and real-world problem solving.
Our program is built around four pillars of Computer Science and Engineering:
- Computer Science, with a focus on programming and coding
- Engineering and Design Thinking, to solve problems
- Entrepreneurship, to help students understand the value of the skills they are learning
- Social and Community Impact, to show how technology can make a difference.
ISTE Standards and Harvard Project Zero Thinking Routines are embedded throughout instruction to strengthen student thinking, reflection, creativity, collaboration, digital literacy, and technology use. With 1:1 Chromebooks, Schoology, differentiated online lessons, and small-group instruction, teachers are able to personalize learning and support students based on their individual needs.
