The Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School is one of 17 magnet schools managed by the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) in Greater Hartford. CREC Schools provide students across the region with the chance to identify what fascinates them and pursue it through opportunities that they won't find anywhere else.

The Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School is part of the Regional School Choice Office’s (RSCO) network of 44 magnet schools. RSCO is the office established by the Connecticut State Department of Education to serve as a centralized resource for information about the Greater Hartford Region’s unique, high-quality public school choice options for prekindergarten through grade 12. The RSCO School Choice System offers students a wide array of school choice options and brings together families from over 40 towns in diverse and engaging learning environments.

Although no Open Houses are currently scheduled, prospective families are encouraged to call the school's main office to get more information. Look for future Open House dates in Fall 2026!

2. Submit Application

RSCO also manages the application and placement process for these schools. Prospective students must apply through RSCO’s easy-to-use online application platform that allows parents/guardians to manage applications for all their children. Families only need to create one RSCO account and should use the same account each year to submit applications.

Application Period

The on-time application period for the 2026-2027 school year opens on December 3rd, 2025, and closes on February 11th, 2026, at 5:00 pm. Submitting an application during the on-time period is one of the best ways to increase the chance of a placement offer.

The late application opened on a limited basis the week of March 10, 2026. Please log in to your RSCO account for up-to-date information to see if our school is still accepting applications during this period.

Placement Priorities for the Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School

The following priorities are used in the placement process and can increase the chance of a placement if the school has available seats. To receive priority, you must apply during the on-time application period and make the school your first choice. Applicants receive priority in the order listed below.

CONTINUING THE MAGNET EXPERIENCE!
Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School 8th-grade students have a direct pathway to 9th grade at Academy of Computer Science and Engineering. To be eligible for this pathway, applicants must submit an on-time RSCO application with the Academy of Computer Science and Engineering as their first choice.

Grade 8 students at Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School may also receive a pathway priority when applying to the following schools:

Academy of International Studies
Academy of Science & Innovation
Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts – Full Day

3. Accept Placement

Placement Announcements
Placement announcements are made in mid-March and continue biweekly, as seats are made available, through September. No magnet school placements are made after October 1.
Once an applicant receives a placement offer, they must complete registration within the timeframe provided. Failure to register will result in the placement offer being administratively declined, and the seat will be offered to another applicant on the waitlist.

4. Register with Your Child's School

The placement letter and offer details provided to families who receive an offer provide contact information to begin the registration process. Begin the registration process with the school immediately to reserve your child's spot.

Don't miss the registration deadline!

Parents/guardians typically have a deadline of 14 days or less to register their student once a placement offer has been accepted, so it’s best to start the process as soon as you accept the placement.

It is important to register by this deadline, because placement offers are administratively declined if the applicant does not register by the date specified by the school or district.

Registration Documents

The registration process is handled at the school or district where your child will attend. During the registration process, families must provide the appropriate documents as directed by the school or district to verify that their child is eligible to attend the school. Examples of registration documents a school or district might request during registration are found on the Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) Registration website.
